Aga Khan University - Emeritus Professors

The Aga Khan University (AKU) confers Emeritus Professor (EP) honorary appointments to individuals who are leaving employment with the University and who have made significant contributions to the University over the course of their career with the University. The University Appointments and Promotions Committee considers recommendations for this appointment from academic unit heads (Dean, Director, Chair, University Librarian) or any other academic member of the University community. The appointment is conferred by the Board of Trustees on the recommendation of the University Appointments and Promotions (A&P) Committee. The criteria for this appointment are available here.

AKU recognises that Emeritus Professors often continue to provide important contributions to the University in relation to teaching, ongoing research and service and are a rich and invaluable resource of knowledge, experience and history. They remain an important part of the University community. In recognition of this, in 2023 the Board of Trustees approved a formal University structure - The AKU Emeritus Professors (AKU-EP) - that supports the ongoing engagement of Emeritus Professors in the University, creating a cross-discipline and cross-campus community of emeritus professors, providing opportunity for greater impact for the University and for social engagement that adds value to the next phase of their professional lives.
