Witnessing a gradual paradigm shift in the research from quantitative studies to mix methodologies, and worldwide acceptance of conclusions based on qualitative scientific inquiries, researchers are encouraged to include qualitative research methods along with quantitative data. For new or sensitive areas of research, formative studies provide basic information before collecting quantitative data. Qualitative studies are rich source of gaining an understanding of underlying reasons, opinions, and motivations for an event of interest. Qualitative study designs provide insights into the problem, helps in generating hypotheses for future quantitative studies, and help in identifying responses to be included in the potential quantitative research.
A comprehensive understanding of qualitative research using content analysis approach with this perspective is thus essential for people involved in research particularly related to public health in Pakistan.
