Faculty of Health Sciences Library
The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) Library at The Aga Khan University is a cornerstone in advancing educational, research, and clinical initiatives.
Staffed by highly qualified and service-oriented professionals, the library boasts one of Pakistan's most comprehensive collections of health sciences literature, available in print and digital formats.
To meet the evolving needs of the academic and healthcare communities, the FHS Library prioritizes access to a vast array of
electronic resources, offering a level of access that surpasses many developed countries. The library is committed to maintaining a current and relevant collection; outdated materials are systematically reviewed and replaced with the latest scholarly and scientific publications. In addition to its specialized health sciences resources, the library also offers a collection of over 8,000 general reading books, fostering a well-rounded educational experience.
With an extensive collection of over 28,000
print books and online access to more than 245,000
eBooks, the FHS Library is a critical resource for health sciences education and research. The library also holds over 7,000 issues of print scholarly journals and provides online access to over 8,000 scientific journals through 25 widely recognized
health sciences databases. To facilitate academic and professional pursuits from any location, remote access to these databases is available via
OpenAthens. As a member of the WHO EMRO libraries network, the library further enhances its offerings with a comprehensive collection of WHO publications, solidifying its role as a key resource for global health information.
The library is organized into two distinct sections, each tailored to meet the specific needs of its users. The Jivraj Health Sciences Library features a ground floor dedicated to Nursing, Basic Sciences, and reference collections, while the basement houses collections on Clinical Sciences and general topics, including a Learning Commons—a versatile space used primarily for information literacy sessions. The second section, the Kurji Periodical Library, houses a comprehensive collection of print journals, a research cubicle for faculty and researchers, and the office of the Senior Librarian.
To support student learning, the library offers access to 17 personal computers and 47 laptops for on-site use. With a covered area spanning 14,034 square feet, the library can accommodate up to 307 users, including 164 individual study carrels. For collaborative work, group study rooms equipped with LED screens for multimedia purposes are available in the
Digital Scholarship Centre-Teaching & Learning Commons and the
University Centre (see facilities) of The Aga Khan University. The library is fully air-conditioned and offers fast and stable LAN and Wi-Fi Internet connectivity, ensuring that students have access to the resources and spaces they need for both individual and group study.
