Radiation Oncology 

Radiation Oncology facility was commissioned at Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi in February 2006 and is based at the Ibn-e-Zuhr Building.

This department is equipped with four linear accelerators, a brachytherapy suit and a simulator.

The cancer patients are treated at this facility with state-of-the-art equipment and treatment planning systems.

​Radiation Oncology at AKU offers:

  • 3D conformal radiotherapy 
  • Intensity modulated radiotherapy and Volumetric Arc therapy, 
  • Image guided radiation therapy
  • Intracavitary brachytherapy for gynaecologic cancers. 
  • PET/CT base radiation therapy planning
  • Total skin electron therapy (TSET) 
  • Total body irradiation (TBI) for bone marrow transplant conditioning
  • Radiation Oncology Section has five full time, site-specific faculty, six clinical medical physicists and fifteen radiation therapy technologists.


Postgraduate Training Programme

Postgraduate training programme in Radiation Oncology is intended to be an interactive learning process. The self-actuated, thoughtful, and motivated postgraduate trainee will find AKU to be an environment which is rich in learning resources. These include the faculty, patients, libraries, computers and electronic media, as well as peers and other students. Trainees are expected to utilise all these facilities to enhance their clinical skills and orientation.
