The Aga Khan University’s Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at AKUH provides state-of-the-art diagnostic pathology services while achieving excellence in pathology research and education. The department strives to provide a quality work environment that fosters unity, respect for diversity, teamwork and professional growth.

The department has a robust academic portfolio with faculty involvement encompassing all levels of scholastic initiatives. Formal undergraduate, postgraduate and structured residency programmes are integrated into the academic functions which are complemented and supported by research. Faculty of the department is actively engaged in undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD teaching programmes as well as trainee technologist programme.   

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is involved in both basic science and clinical research activities and collaborate heavily with other departments within the University and outside institutions in its research, both national and international.

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine offers residency training in the following disciplines:

  • Chemical Pathology
  • Haematology
  • Histopathology
  • Microbiology
Residents receive training for clinical work and research from highly qualified and experienced faculty. The residency programme is recognised in all the above-mentioned disciplines by the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Pakistan and follows defined standards.
