Paediatrics and Child Health

The Paediatrics and Child Health residency programme at AKU aims to provide every resident a comprehensive foundation in Paediatrics so that they graduate as highly competent paediatricians, well equipped to begin a career in general Paediatrics or join a subspecialty or academic fellowship.

Over the 4-year programme, residents gain a broad base of experience in general paediatrics at secondary and tertiary care level, as well as exposure in neonatology, paediatric emergency medicine, paediatric intensive care and cardiology, haematology/oncology, infectious diseases, neurology, nephrology, endocrinology, genetics & metabolism as well as paediatric surgery. Skilled, dedicated faculty and strong sub-specialty rotations attract a large number of nationwide and regional referrals. As a result not only the patient load is well balanced but also the residents gain experience in a wide spectrum of diseases.

The training is recognised by the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Pakistan for FCPS Part II and by the Royal College, UK, for MRCPCH Part II. From June 2022 Programme got accreditation from Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education – International (ACGME-I). This is one of the pioneer programmes who has accredited by ACGME-I in the region.
