Neonatal Paediatrics
Pakistan is one of the four countries that contribute 50% of new-born deaths globally. Aga Khan University as a leading academic institute is the first recognised center by CPSP for training of Neonatologists. Over the years we have been training post graduates who are now successfully leading Neonatal centers in Pakistan and abroad. We feel in alignment with the vision and mission of the university, it is AKU’s responsibility to educate and train neonatologist empower them so that they can serve newborns in the country and contribute towards reduction of newborn deaths in the country.
We are the only well-established, state of art NICU in Pakistan that is equipped and has a capacity to manage all new-born diseases including cardiac, neuro and metabolic patients. As new NICU are being established in the country, it becomes incumbent upon AKU to train postgraduates who can then serve. Growing awareness of the unique characteristics of perinatal disorders has emphasized the need for appropriate setting in which care can be provided to seriously ill newborn babies with various medical and surgical complications and led to establishment of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi.
