Consultant Cardiologist, AKU, Karachi​

Dr With an MBBS from Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro, Dr Farhala holds an FCPS in Adult Cardiology and completed a residency in Internal Medicine and Adult Cardiology at AKU. She serves as a consultant Cardiologist at the AKU. 

Research Project: Quality of care and cardiovascular risk assessment in pregnancy - A mixed methods approach to develop evidence-based care pathway to improve outcomes in women with pregnancy and heart disease in Pakistan - CAROBS initiative.

Ms Namra Aziz

Instructor Research, IBA, Karachi

Dr Ms Namra Aziz completed her undergraduate degree in Economics and Mathematics from IBA. She volunteers at Health Aid Foundation (NGO) and aspires to work as a Data Scientist for a charitable cause, contributing to various NGO projects aimed at benefiting  the people of Pakistan.

Research Project: Machine learning for disease cluster arrangement of mortality in patients with diabetes mellitus admitted to a hospital setting in Karachi, Pakistan.

Dr Zeerak Jarrar

Instructor Research, AKU, Karachi

An MPH from King's College London and BDS from Altamash Institute of Dental Medicine, Dr. Zeerak, a volunteer at Doctors of the World UK and the Heart and​ Stroke Foundation of Canada, specializes in NCD research. Her contributions include digital health interventions, registries, mobile health applications, and a pivotal role in empowering Lady Health Workers in primary healthcare interventions.​

Research Project: Acceptability and scalability characteristics of an app designed to triage NCD risk by LHWs in Pakistan – A mixed method pilot study.​

​Mr Muhammad Shahid Khan

Instructor Research, AKU, Karachi

Mr Shahid, holds degrees in Bioinformatics and Public Health, and is a research instructor at the Institute for Global Health & Development. His research interest focus on public health, mental health, health data sciences, and NCDs, especially among young population.

Research Project: School-based eHealth NCD prevention program to improve awareness in adolescents from urban Pakistan.

Mr M​uhammad Imran Magsi​

Instructor Research, IBA, Karachi

A BS in Economics from IBA, Karachi, Mr. Imran is concurrently pursuing a master's degree in Data Science. His expertise include econometric modeling with EViews and Stata, as well as machine learning modeling using Python. Currently, he is involved in projects related to health economics and cardiovascular diseases.

Research Project: Economic burden and financial toxicity of ischemic heart disease in Pakistan: Analysis using three tier framework.

Dr. Sana Qamar, a BDS graduate from Karachi Medical and Dental College, holds a Master's in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from AKU. Actively contributing to NCD-related projects, she aims to enhance her involvement in research and collaborative initiatives in this field. She has recently joined the Fogarty Fellowship program.

Ms Samina Ak​htar

Instructor Research, AKU, Karachi

Ms Samina holds an M.Phil. in Public Health and actively participates in research project centered around Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) risk prediction and preventive strategies. She has contributed significantly to the development of a mental health curriculum for Lady Health Workers (LHWs) in Pakistan.​

Research Project: Developing cardiovascular disease prevention strategies to promote a healthy lifestyle among high-risk sedentary population in Pakistan.

Dr Sawera Hanif

Instructor Research, IBA, Karachi​

Dr. Sawera, an MBBS from Baqai Medical University, practiced as a General Physician before earning a Masters in Preventative Cardiovascular Medicine from the University of South Wales. She has worked as a Preventive Cardiologist and as a Public and Global Health Researcher at the Institute for Global Health and Development at AKU. She recently joined the Fogarty Fellowship program.

Ms Maira Mubashir

Instructor Research, IBA, Karachi​

Maira Mubashir is a trained nutritionist and has been working at Aga Khan University since 2019. She comes with valuable experience in community settings—both urban and rural—as well as in public and private schools across Karachi. Her primary research interest is Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), with a particular focus on adolescent health. She is deeply concerned about the dual burden of malnutrition among ado​lescents and is dedicated to developing preventive strategies and practical solutions to address this critical issue.

Dr Zeeshan Allana

Instructor Research, AKU, Karachi

Dr Zeeshan Allana holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery.and Duke University, USA. His research interests encompass Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), Artificial Intelligence, and Child and Nutrition Population Health. He is actively engaged in a research project focused on Smokeless Tobacco, Dietary Intake, and Anemia. Zeeshan is particularly passionate about addressing the growing burden of Tobacco use in Pakistan, recognizing its potential long-term impact on a significant​​ portion of the population. His academic journey underscores his dedication to tackling critical challenges in non-communicable diseases, with the aim of making a positive impact on public health.
