Ms Joyce Wangu serves as Senior Manager in the Office of the Provost. Her key responsibilities at AKU include supporting the Provost, the Vice Provost, East Africa and the Associate Vice Provost, Academic Administration in managing operations; organizing meetings and activities of the Senior Academic Leadership Team; facilitating academic planning and budgeting; overseeing the US$ 1M Academic Priorities Fund, the US$ 250K Endowed Chairs and Professorships Fund; and ensuring compliance with statutory, regulatory, and reporting requirements. Joyce is also tasked with the compilation of Board of Trustee reports such as the global Report of the Academy and East Africa’s Higher Education report. 

Joyce has 12 years of work experience in college and university administration and is enthusiastic about creating an organizational culture of inclusivity, fun, continuous learning, and growth. To this end, she coordinates several special projects and team initiatives. She holds a Master of Business Administration (Operations Management) from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Management (Banking and Finance) from Egerton University. Joyce is a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya and a Certified Professional Secretary of Kenya. She is an alumnus of Harvard Kennedy School’s Executive Education “Transforming Leadership in the 21st Century Africa” programme offered in collaboration with AKU’s Graduate School of Media and Communications. Joyce has also taken Strathmore University Business School’s Women in Leadership programme.

In her broad experience working in Higher Education Administration and Management, Joyce is known for building relationships with stakeholders and getting things done. She has worked as Manager and Executive Officer in the Office of the Provost at AKU and was a Quality Assurance Officer - Academics, Senior Examinations Officer and Assistant Coordinator for Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT) Programmes at Zetech University. Joyce began her career at Pioneer International University, where she served as Registrar’s Assistant.

Keen on organizational operations, Joyce supported Zetech University with the launch and implementation of an ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System. She also oversaw the streamlining of examination procedures at Zetech. At AKU, Joyce is one of the trained ISO 31000 Risk Champions tasked with increasing awareness, ownership, and management of the university’s risks. The diversity of her university experiences has made Joyce particularly passionate about the implementation of education policy, institutional collaboration with industry and driving education reforms.
