Introduction
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) is a specialized branch of dentistry and surgery that deals with the diagnosis, surgical management, and rehabilitation of disorders, injuries, and defects affecting the mouth, jaws, face, and related structures. This field combines the principles of dentistry and medicine to provide comprehensive care for patients with complex needs.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons are trained to treat a wide range of conditions, including but not limited to:
• Surgical treatment of oral diseases.
• Extraction of teeth
• Dental implants: Placement of implants to replace missing teeth
• Wisdom teeth removal: Surgical extraction of impacted or problematic third molars
• Facial trauma: Management of facial injuries, including fractures and soft tissue damage
• Orthognathic surgery: Corrective surgery for jaw deformities and malocclusions
• Oral Pathology: Diagnosis and treatment of oral and maxillofacial pathology, including cysts, tumors, and infections
• Reconstructive surgery: Restoration of form and function after trauma, tumor resection, or congenital defects
