EFFORT Dissemination Seminar
On 10th April 2025, the Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, successfully hosted the dissemination seminar for the EFFORT clinical trial ("Effectiveness Of Novel Approaches to Radical Cure with Tafenoquine and Primaquine"). The event marked the culmination of a major multicenter study conducted across Ethiopia, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Pakistan, in collaboration with the Menzies School of Health Research, Australia.
In Pakistan, the trial was carried out at AKU's Clinical Trials Unit (CTU), with patient recruitment from Khidmat-e-Alam Medical Center and Thatta Civil Hospital. The seminar provided an overview of the trial's objectives, methodology, and key findings, focusing on evaluating the effectiveness, safety, cost-effectiveness, and feasibility of three radical cure options for P. vivax malaria.
The findings are expected to contribute significantly to regional efforts toward malaria elimination by 2030, supporting the commitment of 18 malaria-endemic countries in the Asia-Pacific region. The event was well-attended by researchers, clinicians, public health experts, and partners, highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing malaria treatment strategies."
