Introduction

Dr. Lakhani is a graduate of the Aga Khan University Medical College, Karachi and holds an MBA in Healthcare Administration from Illinois Benedictine University, USA. She has over 30 years of extensive experience in pharmaceutical marketing, hospital and university administration, ranging from operation management to strategic planning, clinical governance, risk management, quality management, and system processes.  

At the Dean’s office Dr. Lakhani is responsible for administrative work with Dean Medical College and Associate Dean Faculty on University level work. Has been a key team member of the newly implemented faculty appraisal process with revised tools. In her role as the Director, Dr. Lakhani is responsible for the faculty appointment and promotion process at the Dean’s office 

Within the Medical Director’s office and Department of Surgery, Dr. Lakhani has worked on developing organizational structures and matrixes for accountability and designing faculty appraisal scoring systems with academic and service components. Developed and implemented the Clinical Risk Management Framework at the medical director’s office. She has worked extensively within the institution as a physician auditor for the Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA). 

Based on her qualification and experience, Dr. Lakhani was appointed as Course Director of the Hospital Governance, Performance, Regulatory Compliance & Accreditation and Co Director of the Finance Management of Hospitals, both courses of newly started Master of Science of Health Care Management Program (MSHM. Dr. Lakhani is also the Course Director for Introduction to Finance for Medical Students and the Community Health and Leadership courses for the Associate of Science in Dental Hygiene Program.

In recognition of her exceptional contribution, Dr. Lakhani received the Aga Khan University Founders Day Distinguish Leadership Award in 2025. As a volunteer, Dr. Lakhani was the Chair of the Ismaili Health Professional Association and contributed significantly during the Flood relief work and COVID pandemic at AKU/ AKUH and the community.
