A purpose of this workshop is to provide an overview of the significant steps in the grant writing process

Facilitators:  Dr Syed Asad Ali,  Dr Najeeha Talat  and Ms Tehniat Sheikh

Objectives:

To enable the particip​ants to:

  • become aware of the methods and techniques in identifying a viable research problem;
  • recognise the role of literature review in establishing the knowledge-gap and significance of the proposed study;
  • identify the major sources of funding for research in health sciences;
  • recognise the importance of establishing strategies for impact of research;
  • have knowledge of the administrative aspects in writing grant proposal.

Content:

The workshop will be in three interrelated sections. The sessions will be interactive and Hands-on.  The details are as follows:

Section I:  Identifying a research problem and why should this research be undertaken

  • Role of literature review
  • Expertise and interest of the investigator
  • Significance of the study in the national and global context
  • Impact of the study on the community and stakeholders
  • Dissemination of findings to multiple stakeholders
  • Funding priorities within AKU, and at National and International levels
  • AKU thematic priorities​

Section II: The 'How to' of writing a grant application.

  • ​Preparation of specific aims and significance of the proposal
  • Drafting and submitting the application

​Section III:  The administrative aspects of grant writing

  • Technical and administrative aspects of grant applications

  • Understanding financial and budgetary aspects

  • Internal approvals and checklists

  • Final submission

Early and mid-career researchers, clinical fellows, postdoctoral fellows, students
