Daniel Raynor, Assistant Director (Interim Director)
Daniel is the Assistant Director for ELE_net, having joined the team in September 2015. Prior to joining AKU, he worked for the British Council variously as an online course materials developer, website manager and e-moderator. He also has ten years' experience working as an English language teacher for the British Council in Barcelona and Hong Kong.
Daniel has a Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults and an MSc in Information Technology in Education from the University of Hong Kong. Daniel’s professional interests include the design of digital learning and assessment materials for online delivery; and supporting student academic achievement in English-medium instruction.
Fouzia Qalander Shah, Senior Assistant
Fouzia joined ELE_net in June 2017. In her current role, she is involved in providing high-level managerial support to the Director and is responsible for the smooth running of ELE_net operations.
Fouzia is currently doing her Master in Business Administration (MBA) in Marketing from the KASBIT University. She has seven years' experience of working in diverse office environments.
Mariam Farooq, Teaching Associate (ELT)
Mariam joined ELE_net at its initial stage of formation in November 2014. In her current role, she is involved in designing and teaching English courses that the network offers.
Mariam gained her Master of Education degree from the Aga Khan University Institute for Educational Development (AKU-IED), obtained a Bachelor in Commerce from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa and completed ICELT from the Cambridge University, UK. She teaches courses related to English for Academic and Professional Purposes, and her areas of interest include Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and formative assessment. Mariam also has a strong interest in collaboration and innovation in education.
Saniya Qutaibah, Teaching Associate (ELT)
Saniya joined ELE_net in January 2020. Before joining ELE_net, she worked at Mama Codes, UK for a year as a Teaching Associate; volunteered to improve Young Learners Literacy at Hackney Pirates, UK; and also taught as an English Teacher at L'ecole for Advanced Studies, Pakistan.
Saniya is a CELTA qualified teacher with an MA in English Language and Linguistics from the University of Westminster, UK. She also obtained a BA. in Accounting and Finance from UCSI University, Malaysia.
She has experience in teaching English Language and her professional interests include Linguistics, Educational development and E-learning.
Sarah Paterson, Specialist (ELT)
Sarah is an English Language Teaching Specialist, based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Sarah joined AKU in October 2019 and comes from a background of teaching, teacher training and academic management. Prior to joining AKU, Sarah worked for the British Council for 7 years, project managing international development teacher training projects between South-East Asia and East Africa. Sarah is CELTA/ DELTA qualified, holds a Masters of Science in Applied Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition from the University of Oxford and is currently studying towards a Masters of Arts in Development, Education and Global Learning from University College London (UCL). Sarah is passionate about access to quality education for all learners from a position of social justice. Consequently, she enjoys working with both educators and learners to help them achieve their goals.
