The six-year, Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree programme is designed to prepare medical doctors who are well grounded with knowledge, competencies and skills in humanities, social sciences and medical sciences. The MBChB curriculum provides a general professional education and fosters students' ability to learn through problem-based learning and self-directed, independent study. It is based on the principles of adult learning and incorporates concepts of best evidence in medical education.
The graduates of the programme will be capable of managing health problems and related issues at different levels of health systems through collaborative, innovative and strategic approaches that advance the well-being of individuals and communities.

Admissions
Eligibility Criteria
A student shall be eligible for admission to the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree programme if that student satisfies the following admission requirements:
In the case of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or its equivalent, hold the minimum university admission requirement of mean grade of C+ with a score of B (plain) in each of the following cluster subjects — Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics, and English or Kiswahili.
- In the case of the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE), a minimum of two principal passes in Biology, Chemistry and a subsidiary pass in either Mathematics or Physics.
In the case of International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) at advanced level, an equivalent of C or above in:
- Biology as a principle subject.
- Chemistry as principle subject.
- Physics or Mathematics as a subsidiary subject; and
- A score of C in English or Kiswahili at ‘O’ level.
- Biology at high level.
- Chemistry at high level.
- Physics or Mathematics at standard level; and
- English or Kiswahili at standard level.
- In the case of Diploma holders of medical sciences, a minimum of “O” level Division II pass on KACE or C+ (plus) mean grade and a credit C+ pass in the cluster subjects in KCSE., in addition to a three-year diploma with a minimum credit of pass from a training institution recognized by the Council; or
- In the case of clinical medicine, medical sciences, and community health practitioners a degree or diploma, where applicable.
Note:
- Applicants who are sitting for their certification examinations in the summer of 2026 may apply provisionally. However, an official admission letter will only be issued upon submission of the results, which must be received no later than the date that will be communicated.
Students who have studied outside East Africa are encouraged to apply. Except for those with A-Level or IB qualifications, all other applicants are required to have their academic credentials equated by the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) or the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC). This ensures proper assessment and recognition of their qualifications during the admission process.
