How can one apply for admission?

Applicants are required to submit their applications online on University’s application portal www.aku.edu/apply-online. The application portal starts accepting applications when the admissions open. 


Are hard-copy applications accepted from those applicants who live in remote areas without internet facility? 

Applicants from remote areas who do not have internet facilities are provided PDF copies of writable application form. They can complete the PDF application form and send scanned copies of the form and other application documents to the Registrar’s Office. What is the admission criteria?

Eligibility criteria for Bachelor of Nursing Science (Post-RN)

Route A - Form IV level of education with a minimum aggregate of Division III in the Ordinary Certificate of Education or Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE). “Credit” grade in the following mandatory subjects: English, Biology or Biological Science; and a “Pass” grade in Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics.

Route B - RN to BNS (Post-RN): A-Level (Form 6) qualification with a Principal Pass in Biology or Biological Sciences.

Eligibility criteria for Bachelor of Midwifery Science (Post-RM)

Route A - Form IV level of education with a minimum aggregate of Division III.O-level “credit” grade in the following mandatory subjects: English, Biology or Biological Science; and a “Pass” grade in Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics

Route B - RM / RCN to BMS (Post-RM)​: A-Level (Form 6) qualification with a Principal Pass in Biology or Biological Sciences

Eligibility criteria for Diploma in Nursing (Extension)

Form IV level of education with a minimum aggregate of Division III in the Ordinary Certificate of Education. “Pass" grade in the following subjects:  English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Certificate of enrolment from the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council. Certificate of registration from Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council. At minimum two years' continuous experience in a clinical setting as an enrolled nurse.


Can I get the fees structure for the programmes?

The fees structure is provided with the admission package. Tuition fees and other costs are subject to change and are determined each year. To see the fee structure click here​


How can I pay application fee for the online applications process? 

You will be provided the bank account details where to pay the application fees. Once you have made the payment, please submit a scanned copy of the payment slip along with the other required documents.

Is there any working experience required to apply? 

Yes. Working experience of two years is a requirement for the BScN, BScM and EN-RN programmes. But if you upgraded from EN then you don’t need the 2 years experience when applying for bachelors.


When and how are the interviews conducted?

Shortlisted applicants are required to write an admission test that comprises of English language and general nursing/midwifery knowledge. Those who pass the admission test are invited for oral interviews.​


Are there any scholarships and what is the procedure for applying? 

Yes. There are some financial assistance available and every admitted student is eligible to apply. The financial assistance covers some of the costs of tuition​. For details please contact us at admissions.ug@aku.edu.​
