Vice President, Human Resources​​

​The key responsibilities of the interim VPHR are to build and lead a cohesive human resource culture across the University's geographic sites, colleges, and programmes, provide proactive leadership and create an internationally cohesive environment through the development of best-practices policies and programmes in key areas like recruitment, retention, promotion, employee relations, benefits, and compensation. The VPHR is also responsible for organisational development and the creation of effective training programmes tied to the University's priorities and ensures that human resource strategies and initiatives are aligned with and support the strategic and operating objectives of AKU as it further expands and develops.

Mr. Navroz Surani brings over 40 years of Human Resources experience and has headed the AKU Office of Recruitment and Talent Development for North America since 2009 to date. In the 19 years prior, he led AKU's Human Resources Department in varying capacities developing key HR systems, policies and teams at the University.​

Navroz is a certified Human Resources Executive (CHRE) HRPA - Canada and is a member of the HR Steering Committee for the Association of Commonwealth Universities – UK. He has vast experience in the education sector, specialising in talent management and resourcing and international HR mobility. He has a track record of establishing strategic HR functions from inception and implementing organisational people strategies in line with objectives.

Navroz holds a PhD in Higher Education Administration from University of Toronto, Canada and Master of Industrial Relations, Human Resources from Queen's University, Canada. Additional qualifications include a master's and bachelor's in Business Administration from the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi.  ​
