Mr Al-Karim Haji is responsible for the planning, financing, business development and financial affairs of the Aga Khan University and its health care system. He also supports the planning and construction of AKU's campuses and hospitals. Mr Haji works closely with governments and multilateral and bilateral funding organizations to secure funding for the University's expansions.
Mr Haji is also the Chairman of the Health Network Purchase Committee of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) that consists of 14 hospitals, 341 medical centres in 12 countries treating 5.2 million patients annually.
Organizations such as the World Bank, International Finance Corp, African Development Bank, Agence Francaise de Developpement invite Mr Haji to speak on health and higher education in the developing world. He is a member of the AKDN Endowment Investment Committee and a Charter Member of The Indus Entrepreneurs. Mr Haji is an alumnus of the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia and is a Canadian Chartered Accountant. He has been involved in a voluntary capacity in many organisations including serving on the Senate of the University of British Columbia.
