Interim Director, Institute for Educational Development, Pakistan


Dr Tajik has a strong background in educational leadership and management, teacher education, research, and management of community-based schools in rural areas of Pakistan. He has also led a number of education development and school improvement projects in Tajikistan and Afghanistan. Dr Tajik’s many publications are featured in international journals and include numerous book chapters.

Dr Tajik has made significant contributions to the development of rural communities in Chitral, Pakistan, helping to establish model early childhood education development schools, colleges, and health units. He is the recipient of the Aga Khan University’s Merit Award for Excellence in the Scholarship of Application in 2009 and was one of two finalists from Pakistan for the Chicago Council on Global Affairs’ Patricia Blunt Koldyke Fellowship in 2009.

Mir Afzal Tajik has held a number of key leadership positions at IED, P. He served as Country Coordinator for Afghanistan and Tajikistan from July 2005 to June 2012, and also as Head of the Professional Development Centre, Chitral from January 2007 to June 2010. In July 2010, Mir Afzal assumed the role of Director Outreach for a two-year term and in October 2012 he was appointed as Director, Graduate Programmes. Since February of this year, Mir Afzal has served as the Institute’s Assistant Director.

Dr Tajik is an associate professor at IED, P. He completed PhD in Education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto, and his MEd at IED, P.
