The Chief Executive Officer, Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi reports to the Vice President, Health Services. He/she develops strategies to ensure the quality, relevance, impact and accessibility of the clinical and educational programmes of the University Hospital. The CEO also assumes overall responsibility for the financial strength of the University Hospital.
Mr. Shawn Bolouki has over twenty-five years of leadership experience in healthcare, and has during that time achieved major financial and operational successes in acute-care hospitals and medical care centres ranging in size from 120 to 1200 beds.  Mr. Shawn’s experience spans various hospital types, including academic, not-for-profit, faith-based, investor-owned and government hospitals, both individual and in comprehensive healthcare systems.  

Most recently, Mr. Bolouki was Chief Executive Officer for the Tulare Regional Medical Center (TRMC), Tulare, California, where he held executive leadership positions from 2008-2014.   

Prior to joining Tulare, Mr. Bolouki served as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive Officer for the CHA Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, in Los Angeles and as Chief Executive Officer at the Los Angeles County/University of Southern California Healthcare Network. He has also worked in the Tenet Health System in Dallas, Texas;  the University of California, San Diego Health System;  the Sharp Memorial Hospital, San Diego; St. Paul’s Manor and Health Care Centres, San Diego; and the University of Marburg Medical Center,  Germany.  

Mr. Bolouki holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Redlands, California and a Master of Science, Hospital Engineering from the University of Applied Sciences, Giessen-Friedberg, Federal Republic of Germany. 

While he was at Tulare Regional Medical Centre, Mr. Bolouki received the 2011 President’s Club Award from the Association of California Healthcare Districts for achieving a major turnaround, and improving the delivery of healthcare to the community.  

Mr. Bolouki has been a featured speaker at the Community Hospital 100 and the Medical Development Specialist Executive Management Conference on the subject of Hospital Turnarounds, and on Accountable Care, Organizations and Physician Alignment Strategies.
