​Society for the Promotion of Innovation in Education (SPIE)​​​

Established in 2024, SPIE Nairobi is affiliated with the AKU Centre for Innovation in Medical Education (CIME). Modeled after its counterpart in Karachi, the society is dedicated to promoting student-led innovation in medical education. Its work spans four key areas: MedTech, education (including clinical skills and curriculum development), community engagement through social responsibility, and social media and marketing with a focus on advocacy, skill-building, and edutainment. SPIE provides a platform for students to take initiative, collaborate, and drive meaningful advancements in healthcare education.

Signature Events​

Murder Mystery: An interactive event designed to introduce first-year students to the society’s mission and activities through a creative and engaging format.

Moulage Workshop: A hands-on session that teaches students how to create realistic mock injuries for clinical simulations, enhancing their practical learning experience.

ANKI Workshop: A skills-based session focused on active recall and spaced repetition, helping students adopt evidence-based study techniques for more effective learning.

Medical Ethics Debate: Held in collaboration with Girl Up and the AKU Debate Club, this event explores medicolegal issues relevant to future clinical practice, encouraging ethical reflection and critical discussion.

Vital Signs Workshop: Led by SPIE nursing students, this workshop strengthens students’ foundational skills in measuring and interpreting vital signs.

BLS Showdown: A gamified competition that promotes the learning and application of Basic Life Support (BLS) skills in a dynamic, team-based format.​
