Dr Munira Amirali, Assistant Professor at AKU-IED, received the prestigious award of Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), UK. Her fellow application to TEACH (AKU) was reviewed by three peer assessors including an external moderator. Her work evidenced that she met the standards of the UK Professional Standards Framework. Dr Munira is now included in the pool of 127,000+ HEA fellows across the globe.
Dr Munira is also a recipient of the AKU Outstanding Teacher Award in recognition of sustained excellence in scholarship of integration.
Over a 20-year career as an educator, Dr Munira has taught and mentored thousands of maths teachers. Her passion to spark interest in maths teaching has grown with time. She translates her passion into action by conducting hands-on continuing professional education programmes that help teachers enhance their understanding of the subject and learn novel techniques of teaching maths. Her programmes for teachers are filled with purpose, passion, excitement, innovation and reflection which she ultimately wants to trickle down to children in the classroom.
Recognition of her work led to Dr Amirali being asked to serve as a national expert on the design of the BEd (Hons) mathematics curriculum, under the aegis of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, in 2012. She drew upon her doctoral and regular research to develop this curriculum.
In 2018, she was asked by the Sindh government to lead the revamp of the mathematics syllabus for Grades I-X in the province.
