The Centre of Excellence in Women and Child Health, Aga Khan University (AKU) is conducting a cluster randomized controlled trial with focus on first 1000-days of life to prevent stunting among children under-two years in districts Pishin and Quetta Balochistan.
The overall objective of this high-level mission was to present the World Food Programme and Aga Khan University’s collaborated efforts in improving malnutrition situation in Balochistan, specifically focusing on 1000-days approach.
The key outcome of this mission entails in generating successful scientific evidence through stunting prevention model, which will help the representatives of Islamic Development Bank and Her Highness Princess Sarah Zeid to better understand its design, implementation and monitoring mechanisms. This mission will give the opportunity to get first hand appreciation of how stunting prevention model works and which will further strengthen the opportunity for future funding on stunting prevention focusing on 1000-days approach.
Dr. Sajid Soofi, Principal Investigator of stunting prevention trial in Balochistan (and Associate Director, CoE WCH) presented study design and future plans of the research study titled “Evidence generation related to stunting prevention through multisectoral approaches coupled with appropriate complementary feeding practices in Balochistan”.
Pregnancy outcome status of this Study will be shared by December 2020, nutritional status of children at six months of age by July 2021 and final study report by March 2023.
