AKU-ISMC was delighted to host a group of Syrian diaspora leaders, for a day, as part of a programme aimed at building the capacity of Syrian diaspora leaders.
Run by the charity
Common Purpose, a not-for-profit organisation founded in 1989 that develops leaders who can cross boundaries, the programme aims to build the capacity of Syrian diaspora leaders to contribute to Syria and to the diaspora community. It helps participants to develop new thinking, skills and connections so they can make a greater impact. It is framed around a challenge which is: How can diaspora leaders use their skills, talents and networks to benefit Syria and the diaspora community?
Joanna Hancox, Business Manager at Common Purpose International said; “It’s been fantastic to be able to bring this group to AKU-ISMC given the similar aims between our organisations and programmes, for example educating/developing leaders to become effective agents of change, working and partnering across sectors and working to create innovative solutions to pressing problems.”
AKU-ISMC Director, Dr Leif Stenberg added “We were particularly pleased to be able to host this important event. At AKU-ISMC, we are dedicated to empowering our students to become leaders in their home communities and so this event was a really good fit for us.”
