Aga Khan University Examination Board has announced the results of its supplementary examinations, becoming the first Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education to do so for the 2009 session. AKU-EB’s results were announced only 13 days after the end of the examinations. The Board’s unique computerised examination and processing system allows students to take full advantage of the ongoing academic year, rather than losing time in the conventionally long wait for supplementary exam results.
“AKU-EB is heading in the right direction. Early supplementary results have a positive impact because students can start college with their peers rather than wasting time. Most colleges want complete results, and this system allows them to get that immediately,” said Tabassum Rana, Principal of Lahore Grammar School. Wajahat Fayyaz, a candidate from Iqra Academy, agreed and added, “The early results were very beneficial to me. This is the way supplementary exams should be conducted.”
Supplementary exams are conducted for two sets of candidates: those who wish to improve some of their previous examination results, and candidates who have failed a particular exam and wish to retake it. AKU-EB’s supplementary exams were conducted successfully across Pakistan inKarachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Layyah, Gujranwala, Daharki, Mianwali and Gilgit within ten weeks of the end of the annual examination session. This year,45.4per cent of SSC candidates and62.2 per cent of HSSC candidates improved their performance in specific subjects, while41per cent of SSC and HSSC students passed previously failed exams on this attempt.
