Carole Kimutai, a participant of The Aga Khan University's Graduate School of Media and Communications' (GSMC) Executive Masters in Media Leadership and Innovation programme (EMMLI) has been appointed to the supervisory Board of Directors for the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA).
Carole is the Digital Editor at Standard Group, Kenya, was among 11 other board members who were elected during the WAN-IFRA annual general meeting held on 17 June 2022. According to a statement published on its website, “the changes in WAN-IFRA's Board of Directors signal it's ongoing commitment to deliver on its strategic plan for diversity and inclusion, initiated in 2017 and ensure that WAN-IFRA has the additional skillsets and experience to support future developments in different parts of the world."
Speaking on the appointments, Vincent Peyregne, WAN-IFRA's CEO noted the advances to the diversity and expertise of the board and growth in number of women in senior leadership positions in the media. He hoped that this and future elections will pave the way towards achieving parity as an industry.
