The School of Nursing and Midwifery-East Africa embarks on the Charter 400 journey undertaking a Moodle –VLE orientation to over 80 freshmen who have been admitted to the BSCN/BSCM programs in Nairobi, Kenya. The Moodle platform will support the learning of the students throughout their Academic years in AKU. Edward Misava Ombajo, the Digital Teaching and Learning Associate with the support of Ezekiel Kimeu and Daniel Musyoka from IT facilitated technology in Learning sessions to the team of st
udents.
Some of the students had the following to say as their experience over the past week (29th July to 2nd August 2019) of orientation:
“I have learned so much in the last four days in information technology, a very important key lesson in my career progression, it has been a hard task to do but I appreciate the progress because I am not where I began. I appreciate the fact that I joined Aga- Khan University for I am in the right place and in the right hands”. (Stella)
“It has been quite challenging but at the same time the most exciting encounter with technology. In the past I have not been a friend to my computer except for preparing presentations, receiving and responding to official mails. Now I am struggling but I appreciate the immense support of my facilitators who are extremely patient to guide me through my learning experience. Each day begun with a lot of frustration navigating through the “bread crumps” but ended with new knowledge and new skills. I have made a choice to hang in there until I become an expert, hopefully I will be back to give you my story as I graduate “. (Kato)
“My experience with this session is that it was exciting and challenging at the same time. It has enabled me to see things in a different perspective and increase my knowledge on information technology. I really appreciate the application of technology in learning”. (Susan)
“Have learnt that with technology i can manage my studies anywhere” (Kenneth)
“My experience of Moodling, VLE , Google docs, Menti, stories telling, survey monkey, Breadcrumbs, forums, world cloud, google drive and Zoom at 10pm outside the session was quite a mazing and inspiration” (Peter)
In conclusion, most freshmen through quick survey preferred to be taught through blended learning taking into considerations both interactive face-to-face session and online learning as shown:
