A teacher who believed in us when we doubted ourselves; inspired curiosity, confidence, and courage; saw potential where others saw limitations; changed the trajectory of our lives; opened our minds to new possibilities; challenged us to think differently; refused to let us settle for less than our best abd helped us develop resilience, perseverance, and confidence.
Across Tanzania, thousands of teachers continue to make this difference every day. They nurture young minds, create opportunities, ignite dreams, and quietly build the future of our nation. Yet many of these extraordinary educators remain unrecognized, unseen and uncelebrated.
The
UTU Teacher Excellence Awards (UTU-TEA) 2026, is a pilot initiative designed to scale up at the national level in 2027 led by the Aga Khan University to recognize and amplify outstanding teaching practice while strengthening professional learning and educational excellence across Tanzania.
Our guiding belief is that teachers:

- Help learners discover their purpose.
- Create the leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs, scientists, and citizens of tomorrow.
