SoTL Unconference 2021

Q1) Why is this Conference called an Unconference?

The UnConference will be unique in the opportunities it presents to the faculty members and students. There is something of interest for everyone. Furthermore, the UnConference will bring the AKU Family to engage in problem-solving, reflective thinking, and some laughs. If you are still on the fence.​

Q2) ​How do I register for the sessions?

Registrations are now open. You can register for the different sessions on the home page as well as for the opening and closing. This can be done by November 8, 2021. Registrations will continue after that on email sotl.conference@aku.edu. 

Q3) Is this an online event or can we participate on location?​

It is a virtual event with synchronous sessions via Zoom Web Conferencing Software.

Q4) Will I receive a certificate of attendance?

Yes, you will be sent an e-certificate upon attending all sessions that you have registered for. 

Q5) How can I ask questions during the sessions?

Each session will have its own functionalities. You can write your questions in the chatbox for Zoom during the session. Often there will be dedicated Q&A sessions too. 

Q6) How do I claim my CME points?

The CME/CPD certificate will be available after completing the online evaluation and credit claiming procedure. You will receive a link in an email at the end of the conference. For more information, contact: sotl.conference@aku.edu 

Q7) What time zone will be used?

The time zones used will be Karachi, Pakistan (GMT+5), Nairobi, Kenya (GMT+3), and London, United Kingdom (GMT+1). 

Q8) Will I be able to review the schedule of the UnConference prior to registering?

The schedule will be available nearer to the UnConference on the following website: https://www.aku.edu/events/sotl/Pages/home.aspx 

Q9)Can I attend different sessions or do I have to attend the whole conference?

You can attend any session that you like. 

Q10) Will presentations be live or prerecorded?

The presentations will be live.

Q11) What tech requirements do I need?

To attend the virtual conference, you need a good internet connection, your mobile or computer, and valid registration. You will receive login details a few days prior to the conference. As there will be some activities, you should connect with your laptop for the optimum experience.

Q13) I am a student. How can I participate?

Students can participate in the following activities:

Quarantine Bloopers: A fun evening celebrating successes, challenges, and mishaps! Open Competition to choose the BEST AHA/OOPS moments!

AKU Global Solutions Cafe: In 6 breakout rooms students and faculty meet colleagues across the 3 continents to identify solutions to the identified challenge.

Pechakucha: 20 pictures (no text) in 20 seconds recorded slide share or a video reflecting on the online experience and innovations made through the digital medium to planning teaching; engaging learners; and feedback and assessment.​

Q14) Is this Conference open for the public?

The Conference is open for faculty and staff from AKU and AKU-related entities. 

Q15) I am a presenter- Is there a PowerPoint design I should be using?

No, there is no specific presentation format. However, you might be interested in using a template available on the AKU portal: https://one.aku.edu/communications/Pages/presentations.aspx 

Q16) I am a presenter. What do I need to know?

If you are a presenter, you will be contacted directly by one of our committee members regarding your participation in the programme. ​
