5th AKU Annual Surgical Conference

Trauma: Striving for Change

Injury kills more people every year than HIV, TB and malaria combined, and the overwhelming majority of these deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries.

The 5th AKU Annual Surgical Conference will focus on how these precious lives can be saved by following a systematic approach for improving trauma care, training and research. The theme of the conference is 'Trauma: Striving for Change'.

Organised by the Aga Khan University Medical College's Department of Surgery from February 14–16, 2020 in Karachi, the conference will bring together national and international experts with expertise in pre-hospital care, mass casualty, rehabilitation, prevention and disaster management.

The participants will be able to:

  • acquire an understanding of surgical care of trauma patients, pre-hospital management and rehabilitation.
  • understand delivery of quality care in the context of resource limitation, acquire an increased understanding of the complexities of trauma care including support for families, resource constraints, discharge planning, rehabilitation and prevention of trauma.
