Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Facility Director, the incumbent will be responsible for managing operations and facilities and overseeing MEP aspects of minor construction projects across AKU in Kenya.

Responsibilities
  • Guide, direct and oversee a team of electrical & mechanical supervisor and technicians, including contract / annual maintenance for day to-day operations and maintenance of electrical & mechanical plant and equipment, in order to enhance maintenance skills, minimize plant down time / improve uptime, and thus optimize performance and plant reliability.
  • Basic design and planning of electrical & mechanical systems including selection of plant and equipment; project engineering and management of small scale projects.
  • Review plans and specifications according to the project. 
  • Provide technical advice to designer, supervisor, inspector, and contracting service provider regarding installation and maintenance of MEP System.
  • Analyze Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing engineering problems and formulate solutions.
  • Identify problems in the design, planning, manage and delivering the projects in accordance with project requirements.
  • Plan, organize the review and evaluate the work of consultants, contractors, and others. 
  • Manage the day-to-day work of the MEP facility team.
  • Report promptly on any risks associated with MEP installations.
  • Contractor’s testing and commissioning results.
  • Operation and Maintenance manuals.

Requirements

  • Mechanical or Electrical University degree in Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of plans, specifications, and schematics associated with trade.
  • At least ten years of facilities and construction experience; preferably in healthcare and education facilities; with working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing
  • Have a strong technical understanding of facility operations and maintenance. 
  • Computer literate.
  • Be highly motivated with self-initiative and strong communication skills and hands on.
