Introduction

Aga Khan University, chartered in 1983 as Pakistan's first private international university, is committed to the provision of education, research, and healthcare of international standards relevant to Pakistan and the region. The affiliated Aga Khan University Hospital has well–equipped investigative services and provides state-of-the-art clinical facilities.

Aga Khan University-Institute for Educational Development, Pakistan (AKU-IED) has a longstanding partnership with the Department of Education (DoE) GB to improve children's access to quality education, enhance education governance, and involve communities in schools in Gilgit-Baltistan. AKU is currently partnering with DoE-GB on the GB Education Fellows (EFs) project to address the dearth of teachers in public sector schools in GB. 

The AKU-led Consortium, including LUMS, KIU, and Knowledge Platform, is inviting applications for HR Manager at the Professional Development Centre, Gilgit.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Project Director, you will be responsible for leading end-to-end HR activities and processes, including strategic HR planning, talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, training and development, and other general Human Resources matters. Specifically, you will be responsible to:
  • Strategic HR Planning: Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with the AKU-IED goals and objectives for the Gilgit-Baltistan region. Collaborate with senior management to anticipate future HR needs and trends.
  • Talent Acquisition: Oversee and manage the entire recruitment process, from job posting and sourcing to interviewing and onboarding of new employees. Ensure a diverse and qualified candidate pool while maintaining efficient recruitment timelines.
  • Employee Relations: Cultivate a positive work environment by promoting open communication, resolving conflicts, and addressing employee concerns. Implement initiatives to enhance employee satisfaction and engagement.
  • Performance Management: Implement AKU-standard performance appraisal systems, providing guidance to managers on performance reviews, feedback, and development plans. Monitor employee performance and contribute to talent development efforts.
  • Training and Development: Identify training needs, design training programs, and facilitate workshops to enhance employee skills and knowledge. Collaborate with internal and external resources to ensure effective learning opportunities.
  • Compensation and Benefits: Manage the administration of employee compensation, benefits, and payroll processes in compliance with local laws and AKU policies.
  • HR Policies and Compliance: Maintain HR policies, procedures, and practices that adhere to local labor laws and AKU-IED standards. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and promote ethical behavior.
  • Workforce Analytics: Collect, analyze, and report HR metrics to guide decision-making. Provide insights into workforce trends, turnover, and other relevant data to enhance organizational effectiveness.
  • HR Administration: Accurately and confidentially manage HR records, contracts, and documentation. Stay updated on HR best practices and legal developments to ensure continuous improvement.

Requirements

You should have:
  • a Master’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or equivalent
  • at least eight years of proven HR experience, with at least 5 years in an HR Manager or similar role, preferably in Gilgit-Baltistan or Northern Pakistan
  • sound knowledge of local labor laws and regulations
  • excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
  • strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • proficiency in using HR software and Microsoft Office Suite
  • ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
  • demonstrated ability to build relationships and collaborate with diverse teams
  • good financial skills with the ability to analyze numbers to facilitate decision-making
  • ability to work with people from various disciplines and backgrounds and identify gaps to plan activities that will result in overall improvement of HR services.
