Introduction

Aga Khan University-Institute for Educational Development, Pakistan (AKU-IED) has been a 3-decade relationship with the Department of Education (DoE), Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) contributing to improving children’s access to quality education, strengthening governance of education, and facilitating community involvement in schools in Gilgit-Baltistan. 

AKU is currently partnering with the DoE GB on the GB Education Fellows (EFs) project which aims to enhance the quality of teachers in the public sector schools in GB. The AKU-led Consortium (including LUMS, KIU and Knowledge Platform) invites applications from suitable candidates to induct them as Professional Development Teachers (PDTs) to be placed in districts as teacher educators to provide ongoing professional support to the Education Fellows, to work closely with the school leadership in achieving the Project goals, and to work as resource persons in the professional development education for the EFs.  

The contracts will conclude in less than a year but will be renewable on satisfactory performance of PDTs during the subsequent year. In addition to the salary, the Project will offer excellent professional development opportunity to the PDTs as they will be working with the senior faculty from the partner institutions to design and deliver the professional development sessions for Education Fellows.     

Responsibilities

  • Working with a strong project team and faculty members from the Consortium partners, the PDTs will be the main ongoing field support to the Education Fellows in schools. Within the overall responsibility of providing ongoing mentoring and coaching to teachers, both individually and in groups, your responsibilities will include: 
  • Delivering engaging workshops, seminars, and training sessions, both in-person and through virtual platforms.
  • Collaborating with instructional designers and subject matter experts to create effective learning materials and resources.
  • Providing personalized coaching and support to Education Fellows in their schools, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, including feedback and teaching demonstration.
  • Design and deliver training sessions for Education Fellows on subject contents, innovative teaching pedagogies  and relevant professional development programs that cater to their diverse professional needs. 
  • Use technology (including gamification) to improve students learning achievement in schools
  • Assess the school level needs of Education Fellows and customize training contents to meet the context specific needs.
  • Help Education Fellows promote participatory and activity-based teaching and learning practices in schools, using appropriate game-based pedagogies. 
  • Support Education Fellows in developing and using educational resources such as lesson plans, teaching and learning (e.g. low- and no-cost instructional) materials, and specifically encouraging the use of digital resources in schools. 
  • Collaborate with school leadership to align impactful and sustainable educational initiatives with the overall school goals.
  • Work closely with Project Team to ensure smooth implementation of the EFs project, sharing insights and feedback from the field and to assess Education Fellows evidence-based performance.
  • Collect data and feedback on the impact of training sessions and document and provide success stories related to project implementation. 
  • Submit the periodic project-related reports to the Project Manager.
  • Provide regular and appropriate feedback to Education Fellows on their teaching-learning processes, classroom management, and pedagogical content knowledge.
  • Guide Education Fellows in safeguarding students’ wellbeing and take appropriate action to resolve concerns on day-to-day basis.
  • Attend meetings, workshops, conferences, and networking events related to Education Fellows.
  • Be willing any other tasks assigned by the Project Manager. 

Requirements

  • At least a master’s degree in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, English, and computer science, preference will be given to those having a professional degree (e.g. MEd and/or BEd.) 
  • At least 3 years’ experience of working as a teacher educator, or more than 5-year teaching experience at SSC and HSC level. 
  • Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in designing and delivering effective professional development programs.
  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies.
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Technological proficiency for virtual teaching and online learning platforms.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and adapt to evolving educational landscapes.
  • Be willing to work in any district in GB.
  • Above all, demonstrated passion for improving the quality of education.
