Introduction

Aga Khan University's (AKU) Department of Community Health Sciences (CHS) is a preeminent public health institution in the country. The vision of the Chancellor set the direction for the University to take a lead in community development and the creation of an innovative curriculum that emphasizes a balance between patient care and population health. Over the past several decades, CHS has played a major role in leading the development of national level primary health care, public health practice, health systems through evidence-based approach. CHS has established successful models in urban and rural settings in Pakistan emphasizing empowerment - building on the strengths of communities. As part of an international university, CHS collaborates in a global network of outstanding research and teaching institutions including AKU affiliates in East Africa and Central Asia.

CHS has five major sections – Epidemiology & Biostatistics, Health Policy & Management, Population & Reproductive Health, Environmental-Occupational Health & Injuries, and Non-Communicable Diseases & Mental Health. 

Responsibilities

Being a member of the Health Policy & Management Section, you will be responsible for:
  • developing and conducting educational/training programmes in the areas of health policy and systems management for undergraduate, graduate and post graduate students
  • developing continuing education and tailored educational programme targeted at mid and senior managers and policymakers in health policy, systems management and sector financing
  • establishing and/or strengthening research programme that includes health systems research, including implementation research
  • promoting evidence for uptake into national/sub-national health planning and practice
  • collaborating with research scientists and key stakeholders, nationally and internationally, and promoting AKU as a center with high level expertise in health system research.

Requirements

You should have:
  • a PhD in health systems, health management or related field from a well reputed and HEC recognized university/institution
  • at least ten years of teaching/research experience in the field of health systems, public health, health administration, or closely relevant discipline in HEC recognised university or a postgraduate institution
  • demonstrated professional accomplishment and evidence of publications and successful performance in grant writing, and scientific/public health research and development
  • good teaching skills and knowledge of new teaching methodologies and practices
  • ability to communicate effectively both verbal and written in English and Urdu, however, command over other local/regional languages would be an advantage
  • good academic writing skills
  • proficiency in use of computer software packages
  • ability to build and promote partnerships across organisation and beyond
  • capability for curriculum planning and organising skills for research administration
  • good interpersonal skills and commitment to learning, growth, and self-development.
