Introduction

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at The Aga Khan University is a dynamic academic center which serves the diagnostic needs of the country through its clinical laboratory services that is spread across Pakistan. AKUH's Clinical Laboratory is College of American Pathologists (CAP) accredited and caters to the needs of the entire country through its tertiary lab at the main campus, 300+ specimen collection units and 13 stat labs across Pakistan. 

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine consists of five major sections namely Chemical Pathology, Hematology and Transfusion Medicine, Histopathology, Microbiology, and Molecular Pathology. Each section is academically driven and is highly engaged in research and undergraduate, postgraduate teaching and training.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible to: 
  • Perform clinical and biochemical tests independently as per SOPs and ensure timely and accurate report generation.
  • Participate in staff training sessions, educational opportunities, and support quality assurance initiatives (IQC/EQC).
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining laboratory safety standards according to the Laboratory Safety Manual.
  • Ensure proper specimen handling, equipment maintenance, cleanliness, and notify inventory shortages to the Lab In charge.
  • Promptly communicate abnormal results or critical findings to relevant supervisory or medical personnel and perform any additional tasks assigned by the Pathologist/designee.

Requirements

You should have:
  • a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Masters’ degree will be preferred
  • One year traineeship at the Clinical Laboratory at AKU or two to three years of relevant experience preferably in a laboratory or hospital
  • Thorough knowledge of laboratory testing procedures
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to work in shifts.
