Introduction

Responsibilities

You will be responsible to:

  • ensure booking of hemodialysis patients for both outpatient and inpatient areas
  • review and check physician orders/consent form for Hemodialysis before starting of procedure
  • assess patient lab tests, access site, vital signs and alarming signs prior to starting dialysis
  • assemble required equipment and prepare dialysis machine according to approved procedure before starting of hemodialysis and ensures that machine alarms are set and are functioning
  • prepare vascular access site via central venous catheter or arteriovenous fistula before starting the procedure
  • maintain asepsis while handling Hemodialysis tubing and attaching it to the patient as per approved standards
  • monitor and recognize changes in patient condition before and during hemodialysis and providing nursing care to the patient as per standards
  • ensure timely and comprehensive nursing documentation of patients following nursing process which meets quality nursing standards
  • assess patients and family health education needs, plan and intervene accordingly and evaluate on timely-basis
  • assess patient environment for safety, fall prevention, cleanliness, and proper functioning of equipment and report any unexpected event to unit management
  • ensure proper cleaning, disinfecting and maintenance of Hemodialysis and reverse osmosis machines as per requirements of its standard operational procedure
  • ensure assessment and care of vascular access (catheter) with tubing. 

Requirements

You should have:

  • at least Matric with pre-medical background, preferably having completed Intermediate in Science
  • completed nursing technician training course at AKUH or any other reputed healthcare organization or at least one year of relevant experience
  • certification in BLS
  • ability to effectively work independently as well as in teams
  • willingness to work in shift duties.
