• Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and comprehensive risk assessments across all AKU properties in Uganda.
• Participate in pre-construction, during-construction, and post-construction risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies to ensure safety compliance throughout all phases of construction and renovation projects.
• Develop, deliver, and evaluate training programs on Occupational Health & Safety (OSHA compliance), Fire Safety, and HAZMAT handling, tailored for staff, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Maintain updated HAZMAT inventories, safety data sheets (SDS), and ensure proper storage, labelling, transportation, and disposal of hazardous substances.
• Respond promptly and effectively to fire, chemical spills, exposure incidents, and other safety emergencies, including coordination of emergency response plans.
• Enforce safety standards in alignment with AKU policies, national regulations (e.g., Ministry of Health, National Council for Higher Education (NCHE)), and international accreditations like JCIA.
• Investigate incidents and near-misses, generate reports, and recommend corrective measures.
• Actively participate in and support safety committees, policy reviews, and emergency preparedness drills.
