Introduction

The Department of Psychiatry has a strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate education, research, and clinical service. The Department offers comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, consultation and treatment services in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Treatment modalities include pharmacotherapy, ECT, individual and family therapy and behavior management techniques. Subspecialties include Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and Geriatric Psychiatry. An occupational therapy programme is attached to the inpatient and day care services. Formal structured undergraduate teaching and postgraduate residency programmes are integrated into the academic functions of the Department.

Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Assistant/ Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for: 

  • providing accessible compassionate, ethical, evidence based, and patient centered care to all patients in psychiatry
  • teaching and train undergraduates and postgraduates according to the defined standards and curriculum
  • carrying out clinical research related to mental health
  • designing and offer short courses
  • participating in departmental activities
  • patient care responsibilities on psychiatric ward
  • teaching undergraduate students
  • supervision and teaching of fellows/residents/intern
  • participating in institutional CME and public awareness programsConduct research on topics in Psychiatry
  • participating in committees as assigned by Department Chair
  • organizing, supervise and teach different courses/workshops/seminars, etc.

Requirements

The appointee must have completed a structured postgraduate training programme in Psychiatry and possess FCPS, MRCPsych, American Board or equivalent qualification, should also have valid PMDC license

Applicants for Associate Professor should have at least 8 years of teaching / research experience in a HEC recognized University or postgraduate institution, with 5 years’ post-terminal experience of teaching and a minimum of 10 research publications in journals recognized jointly by HEC and PMDC with at least four of these publications in the last five years. 

Applicants for Assistant Professor should have at least two years’ experience as Senior Instructor or equivalent, and should have demonstrated scholarship through research, publications and/or contribution to education.
