Introduction

Aga Khan University, chartered in 1983 as Pakistan's first private international university, is committed to the provision of education, research, and health care of international standard relevant to Pakistan. The affiliated Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) has well-equipped investigative services and provides state-of-the-art clinical facilities. AKUH is the first hospital in Pakistan to be awarded the prestigious Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) for practicing the highest internationally recognized healthcare standards. 

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at The Aga Khan University is a dynamic academic centre which serves the diagnostic needs of the country through its clinical laboratory services that spreads across Pakistan. AKUH’s Clinical Laboratory is College of American Pathologists (CAP) accredited and caters to the need of the entire country through its tertiary lab at the main campus and 300+ specimen collection units and 13 STAT labs across Pakistan. The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine consists of five major sections namely Chemical Pathology, Hematology, Histopathology, Microbiology, and Molecular Pathology. Each section is academically driven and is highly engaged in research and undergraduate, postgraduate teaching and training.

Responsibilities

You will be required to undergo a one-year training programme, which includes classroom lectures and bench-side training to provide in-depth knowledge of Blood Bank, Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Histopathology, Microbiology and Molecular Pathology.

Requirements

You should have:
  • a BS degree in Medical Lab Technology, Microbiology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Clinical diagnostics, or any other relevant discipline, while having a Master’s degree in the same disciplines will be preferred
  • minimum First Division or a CGPA of 3.0 & above (or equivalent); additionally, the relevant degree should have been awarded during the year 2022, 2023 & 2024
  • willingness to work in shift duties (morning, evening, and night)
  • good interpersonal skills
  • ability to effectively work independently as well as in teams
The selection process includes written assessments and interviews of shortlisted candidates. A monthly stipend will be paid during the training programme to all successful trainees.

This is a one-year traineeship programme. On successful completion of the training program, permanent employment opportunity is offered subject to availability of the position and agreement to serve the Foundation for atleast two years.
