Introduction

The Oncology Service Line offers comprehensive cancer care services to all patients. The services are provided through multidisciplinary teams. Infrastructure facilities include a daycare setting dedicated to oncology patients. Outpatient facilities include clinics of Medical, Paediatric and Radiation Oncology, Hematology, and Palliative Care.

Aga Khan University Hospital invites applications for the position of Medical Officer for Paediatric Oncology. 

Responsibilities

You will be responsible to look after children with blood disorder and cancers. Administering cytotoxic chemotherapy and transfusing of blood and blood products to patients in wards and in clinics.  Specific responsibilities include:
  • looking after all Paediatric Hematology/Oncology patients admitted in ward on daily basis
  • assessment of patient before chemotherapy
  • entering chemotherapeutics in accordance with consultants advice
  • assessment of patient during chemotherapy administration
  • prescribing post-chemotherapy medication
  • inpatient/outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as Lumbar-Puncture and Intrathecal chemotherapy, Bone Marrow aspiration and Trephine Biopsy, Removal of PICC lines etc
  • ordering and monitoring transfusion of blood and blood products in accordance with consultant advice and institutional guidelines
  • participate in outpatient clinics and patient management under supervision of an attending physician
  • ensuring proper documentation in medical record and record keeping

Requirements

You should have:
  • MBBS degree, preferably with House Job in Paediatrics
  • a valid PMDC License
  • good communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to work in teams as well as independently
  • ability to prioritize tasks and shuffle between various tasks to maximize efficiency.
