The Medical College has 4-year Master of Medicine degrees in anaesthesia, family medicine, medicine, obstetrics & gynaecology, paediatrics, pathology, radiology, and surgery.

The Brain and Mind Institute (BMI) seeks to build capacity in the domains of mental health and neuroscience. In collaboration with partners, the Institute is advancing research leadership capacity and support service delivery across East Africa and South Asia, and other regions served by the AKU. The Institute supports a hub for scholarship exchange and action on mental health issues, as well as educational, clinical, and community-based programs. BMI’s research focuses on the context of today’s youth in Africa and South Asia, while our programmatic offerings address mental health related and brain health issues, including stigma and resiliency. A significant area of interest is the implementation of science-based programing in hospital and community settings that translate new discoveries into prevention and treatment programs.

Responsibilities

Job Summary
The successful candidate will support the Principal Investigators to carry out a project aims of a Mental Health Research Project, funded by the National Institute of Health. This role will support in ensuring project activities adhere to ethical guidelines and regulations as well as undertake field work. 

Responsibilities
  • Support study pre-implementation phase including preparation of study tools, undertaking pilot and pre-tests
  • Engage in study implementation by undertaking a spectrum of field work activities including recruitment and consenting of study participants
  • Supporting the study team in ensuring compliance with related ethical and regulatory requirements
  • Support study data management including cleaning, preliminary analysis, as well as storage of information in a private and confidential manner
  • Support a range of study closeout activities including reporting, accounting for study assets as well as participate in post-project audits

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Social/Health Sciences from an accredited University
  • At least one year experience in field data collection preferably in University/Research institution
  • Familiarity with psychological tests
  • Experience in collecting and tracking longitudinal data
  • Experience with SPSS or any other statistical software
  • Experience in using Redcap will be an added advantage
  • Demonstrable knowledge of data cleaning and analysis
  • Experience in troubleshooting fitness trackers and any IT software is preferred
