Introduction

The Outreach and Research Programme of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health has nine community-based field sites across Pakistan (including five in Karachi) and focuses on research for the betterment of women and child health. The Department has a Nutritional Research Laboratory as well as an Infectious Disease Research Laboratory that caters to the needs of its research projects. It has well-acclaimed work to its credit both at the national and international level.

The Burial Surveillance project focuses on the mortality rates related to the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC). The main aim of the project is to compare the number of deaths during the pandemic to the observed numbers of deaths before the pandemic, which can inform on the excess deaths directly and indirectly attributable to COVID-19. 

This is a short-term contractual position.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible to:
  • acquire knowledge of appropriate software development tools in use for research
  • code and develop computer programmes and gain understanding of the entire application system requirements
  • maintain documents of application systems
  • participate in the study, analysis, and design of research applications
  • interact with the application users and resolve day-to-day queries with minimal guidance from supervisor
  • communicate effectively and build strong interpersonal relationship with fellow peers and users
  • work on exclusive assignments as per research requirements
  • assist the supervisor when required.

Requirements

You should have:
  • a minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. Masters will be preferred  
  • at least two years of relevant experience preferably of working on Php, JavaScript and other web-based technologies and frameworks
  • appropriate knowledge and understanding of RESTApi and JSON, problem analysis and solution design, and software engineering
  • excellent hands-on skills pertaining to various programming languages and web-based applications
  • appropriate knowledge and understanding of object-oriented analysis and design 
  • excellent communication skills and ability to efficiently work with diverse teams
  • sound concepts of Architectural Patterns, Design Patterns and RDBMS.
