Introduction

You will be responsible for space planning and design management of facilities on-campus and off-campus. In addition to architectural design, coordination and liaison with user groups, you will be responsible for management of staff within the department and provide oversight on all projects.

Responsibilities

Specifically, you will be responsible to:

  • Prepare concept and schematic design for assigned projects with the help of the team.
  • Design of projects in line with AKU vocabulary and in compliance with international standards regarding patients’ safety and user requirements.
  • Design development and preparation of construction drawings of approved projects with the help of Architects and CAD Operators.
  • Act as a team leader for projects as assigned, monitor staff performance and provide guidance to accomplish work goals.
  • Ensuring compliance of design with best industry practices in terms of patients’ safety and quality of care.
  • Preparation of complete design and construction drawings of approved Project(s) assigned.
  • Review project design drawings in coordination with MEP engineers and Consultants.
  • Review detailed design prepared by consultants for projects, and ensuring conformance with approved schematic designs and design philosophies.
  • Ensure that spaces and sizes identified by users are as per international standards
  • Ensuring compliance of design with best industry practices in terms of patients’ safety and quality of care.
  • Follow-up with planners and architects to have issues in conceptual / schematic design, resolved.
  • Assist Head of Design in technical reviews of space planning, conceptual / schematic designs developed for overseas campuses.

Requirements

  • Degree in Architecture with licenced membership at a professional association.
  • 8 - 10 years of related work experience.
  • Highly proficient in AutoCAD and MS applications.
  • Leadership skills; Be a team player and organise staff into teams and monitor their progress.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Report writing skills and architectural design skills.
  • Possesses sound knowledge of MEP requirements of high tech buildings specially for health care & laboratory facilities.
  • Ability to monitor preparation of 3D views. Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop / Corel Draw (Preferred).
  • Sound knowledge of structural requirements of buildings.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Proficient in use of MS Office and other related computer software.
