Saeedabad, one of the neighbourhoods of Baldia Town in Karachi, is home to a large number of low-income families. Recognising the population's limited affordability to health services, AKUH's Laboratory Collection Centre at Saeedabad has now started providing financial assistance to patients on 47 stat and routine tests which form the bulk of laboratory testing. The welfare costs will be funded by the the Hospital's Patient Welfare Programme. This is the second time that AKUH's Patient Welfare Programme is reaching out to assist indigent patients outside the Hospital premises.
Established in 1986, AKUH's Patient Welfare Programme provides needy patients access to the quality services of the Hospital, without discrimination to creed, colour, ethnic origin or religion. To date, Rs 1.62 billion has been disbursed to 303,000 deserving patients. As a national institution, AKUH seeks to extend the reach of its Patient Welfare Programme to selected offsite collection centres throughout Pakistan, in order to make the Laboratory tests available to indigent patients through welfare assistance. The Saeedabad Collection Centre is another step in line with AKUH's mission of making the Hospital's services accessible to all.
