It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear faculty, Dr. Yousuf Husen, Associate Professor of Radiology. Dr Husen was an eminent radiologist, a committed health care professional, and a motivated educator.
His tenure spanned three decades in which he served as a mentor for many radiology and paediatric faculty members and residents. During his time as the Section Head of paediatric radiology, numerous new radiology procedures were introduced by him, and his vast knowledge base on the subject cannot be underestimated. The CPSP (College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan) frequently brought him on board as an esteemed examinor due to his skills and adherence to the highest standards of quality and ethics.
Dr Husen graduated with a gold medal from Sindh Medical College after which he joined the Department of Radiology as a resident. On completion of his residency, he trained in paediatric radiology at the Hospital for Sick Children at Great Ormond Street in the UK, quickly becoming the referral person for all complex cases related to paediatric radiology.
His gentle, caring demeanour coupled with his great sense of humour earned him the respect of everyone who interacted with him. The love he had for birds and nature could be seen in the effort he would make for their preservation, and his bravery reflected in how he handled his final days; with a smile on his face and determination in his voice.
Poetry and prose were his passion. His command over language, in particular Persian, and love for books was palpable. We at AKU along with the global radiology community will miss Dr Husen greatly, and cherish his devoted service and contribution.
He is survived by his wife Tahera, son Hatim, daughters Yaqoota and Zainab, and four grandchildren.
