“I am excited to have been selected for a two year master’s programme in Education and Human Development to specialise in Educational Leadership and Administration at the George Washington University, Washington DC”, says Sher Ahmed (MEd’14). Hailing from Quetta Balochistan, he is one of the four MEd graduates who have won the USAID’s Teacher Education Scholarship to study for a two-year master’s degree in specialised areas at different universities in the US. The other three recipients of the
award include:
- Syed Dhani Bux Shah Jillani (MEd’08), from Sukkur, selected for specialisation in Research and Evaluation
- Javed Iqbal (MEd’09), from Gilgit-Baltistan, selected for specialisation in Teacher Education
- Shahid Hussain (MEd’11), from Quetta Balochistan, selected for specialisation in Curriculum Studies
“I was fortunate to have the opportunity to attend the MEd programme at IED. The student experience gained at IED helped me to compete with other candidates from across the country for the scholarship and to get admission at one of the best universities in the US. I am confident that the academic rigour that I have been through and the research skills that I have acquired at IED will be extremely helpful in pursuing my specialisation in the US”, says Sher Ahmed.
Shahid Hussain said, “I am excited to go to a different country to learn with an international group of students. It’s a great opportunity to get an exposure to a different context and expand on what I have learnt at IED.”
“The MEd programme and the work experience at IED as a professional development teacher for three years had a great role in helping me not only to win this scholarship but also to qualify for the position of an Assistant Professor in the Education Department at IBA Sukkur. The master’s degree in the US will enable me to expand my understanding of the theoretical basis of research and evaluation”, stated Dhani Bux.
Provost Greg Moran has congratulated the faculty and staff of IED, Pakistan and has wished the four graduates the greatest success in their studies, saying,"This is another chapter in the amazing story of AKU and the difference it continues to make."
