Aga Khan University's Dr Carl Amrhein, Provost and Vice President, Academic, has been appointed as a Board Member of the European-Canadian Centre for Innovation and Research (ECCIR). This is not Dr Amrhein's first involvement with ECCIR. He was a founding member and served on its Board of Directors between 2009 and 2014, during which he also held the position of Vice-President.
ECCIR is an organisation based in Edmonton, Alberta, that is dedicated to promoting international collaboration for organisations active in innovation and research, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and universities. ECCIR's programming is based on the premise that the exchange of information and the formation of international partnerships focused on innovation contribute to speeding up technological progress and enhancing its outcomes. ECCIR is working for the Government of Alberta and Alberta Innovates but is also running Canada-wide initiatives, primarily as the nation-wide coordinator of the Europe Enterprise Network and in the context of strengthening Canada's participation in the Horizon Europe programme.
Dr Amrhein's appointment to this key role is an important development for both ECCIR and AKU, and to the fields of innovation and research. As a member of ECCIR's Board of Directors, Dr Amrhein will play a crucial role in shaping the organisation's direction and priorities, and in promoting international collaboration and innovation. His extensive experience in academia and his background in research and innovation will undoubtedly be valuable assets to ECCIR as it continues to grow and expand its programming.
