Ismail Gulgee is a famous Pakistani artist. Trained as an engineer, he is an abstract painter influenced by the tradition of Islamic calligraphy and by the American "action painting" technique. He has been conferred numerous awards including the Pride of Performance, Sitara-e-Imtiaz and Hilal-e-Imtiaz.
