AbstractEvery incident of child abuse is one too many. Worries about the safety of children are on the rise as we regularly read and hear stories of abuse of various kinds – physical, emotional and mental. Keeping children safe is our collective responsibility. In this talk we will take a critical look at the issue of child safeguarding engaging with the following questions: what is the level of child abuse in the country? What are the emotional and social consequences of child abuse? What does the law say? How are the schools dealing with various forms of safeguarding issues – from playground bullying to online safety? What responsibilities families and neighbourhoods have in this regard? How can we make societies safer for children?
