Research Capacity Strengthening in Gender Based Violence

On the international human rights stage, the linkage between sexual reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and gender-based violence (GBV) is becoming increasingly recognized. Violations of SRHR are considered forms of GBV, requiring therefore, that GBV programmes take account of violations of SRHR.  GBV has been recognized as a cross-cutting issue affecting the lives of victims from a range of dimensions including social justice, fairness, empowerment. This course aims to increase participants’ understanding of the concept of gender, and GBV, within the framework of SRHR. The course will also explore the impact of gender-based violence on health, and development. 

Course Objectives
  • Strengthen participants’ understanding on researching GBV in countries of the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR)
  • Build research capacity of participants to undertake qualitative and quantitative research targeted at preventing and reducing GBV

Who Should Attend
Twenty-five potential participants would be selected from countries in the WHO’s EMR. Preference will be given to those who are interested in designing and implementing resaerch aimed at combating GBV or promoting gender equality. These include, researchers, educationalists, policymakers, activists, and students.
